Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Psalm 24:8

The crowds that went ahead of and him and that followed were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!' Matthew 21:9

As I was reading the verses for today's devotion, I was struck by how such ancient words continue to convey to today's believers how blessed we are to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We follow in the footsteps of millions of believers who have gone before. When little else seems hopeful, he is still just waiting to enfold us in his grace and love. Often our faith falters, and we turn to our own devices rather than counting on him; however, when we turn back to him he is our protector, always loving each one of us.

There are no other babies whose birth is celebrated throughout time as is the birth of Jesus. We look forward to Christmas each year, because God so loved us that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus, to die for us. If Jesus had not arisen from the dead and ascended into Heaven, his birth would not merit the attention it receives. We have reason to sing, "Hosanna in the highest heaven!"

Dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
We are blessed beyond measure to know you and to know that you have afforded each one of us who believe in you eternal life. Help us to always turn to you and to shun our own devices when we have troubles. Instill in each one of us a solid and lasting faith. Amen.
