I am yours; save me. Psalm 119:94

Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He tapped Peter on the side and woke him, saying, "Get up quickly." And the chains fell off his wrists. Acts 12:7

As the account of Peter's release from prison continues, we learn that the angel commanded Peter to follow. As the two proceeded, Peter thought that he was dreaming. The guards did not stop them, and the gate to the city opened to release them. Soon the angel left Peter. Peter realized then that what was happening was real, and he went to the house where many had gathered to pray. He told them of his miraculous release and told those gathered that they should tell others.

Can we identify? Do we wear shackles and bear the difficulties that Peter faced in prison? Probably not. But, we have chains that can bind us--Hate, prejudice, our willingness to judge others, etc. God is there to help each one of us to loosen the chains that bind us. We have been marked with the cross of Christ forever. We belong to Christ and live in the freedom of his word. We are his; he has saved us. Praise his holy name forever.

Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Thank you for choosing each one of us to be yours. Help us to live in the grace you have granted. As ones who belong to God through Christ's death and resurrection, help us to always live in the freedom of your word. Amen.
