Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and he said to him, "What do you command your servant, my lord?" Joshua 5:14

Jesus knelt down, and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done." then an angel from heaven appeared to him and gave him strength. Luke 22:41-43

An amazing aspect of our faith is that we know that God endured more than we can ever imagine just for us, his children. He gave his only begotten Son in expiation for our sins. The pain God suffered in losing his son had to have been utmost pain for our Lord. Jesus knew that he, himself, had to suffer and die. What a burden knowing what was ahead must have been for Jesus. Yet, Jesus did what he needed to do to save us. He suffered, died, and rose again. We know that we do not deserve the grace given when such a sacrifice was made for each of us who believe in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. God and Jesus also knew that this sacrifice was to save those whom God considered precious, even though his children often turned from God and followed their own devices.

Often we are weak and turn to our own ways, but God is always stronger than any of us can understand. He has endured much and is still waiting for us to turn to him when we fall short of what God would have us to do. God always forgives; God always welcomes us with open arms.

I think of the people who are leaving countries where they are not safe, and, perhaps are not even wanted, in the places they have always called home. Often they leave their homes with little other than hope and as many of their loved ones who can be with them. Faith carries them beyond anything they ever could imagine that they would have to endure. Yet, those of faith know that what they are enduring is known by God and that he is there for them even in the darkest times. They are most thankful for the people who care and help in many ways to relieve their suffering.  This knowledge, beacons of light in dark days,  has given strength to thousands through the ages. We are blessed to live in God's presence.

Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Thank you for all that you endured for each one of us. Where we are weak, you are strong and are always there for us. We praise your holy name and thank you for the grace granted to each of us. Help us to obey your commandments and to love others as you have loved us. Amen.
