Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins, for your name’s sake. Psalm 79:9

In his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations beginning in Jerusalem. Luke 24:47 GNT

The Gospels in the New Testament tell the story of Jesus life. Parables, miracles, healings from physical and mental conditions and more. His life was spent in a small area of the world, that small area of land at the eastern edge of the Mediterranean. His disciples all came from that same place. As the book of Luke comes to an end, Jesus has risen from the dead, appeared to two people on the road to Emmaus, who return to Jerusalem are talking to the disciples. Jesus appears in the room with them for some final words.

Looking at a couple more verses from Luke 24: “45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46and said to them, “This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later, 47and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things.”

Jesus opened their minds to understand, as their guidelines and gave them their instructions. This message of God’s grace and salvation is not just for their small group, or Jerusalem, or their country. It is to be shared with all nations. Every single person in those nations needs to hear this message. The disciples began this task, and it has continued throughout the centuries. We heard from those who came before us, and we in turn continue to spread the Good News.

Gracious God, we are thankful that you forgive our sins. You have rescued us and offered us salvation. It is a blessing that we can repay you by sharing this news with all your people. They will know we are Christians by our love. May we show it through our words and actions. Amen.
