Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me.  Psalm 66:20.

Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.  Colossians 4:2

On my bulletin board, I placed a small card which has a picture of a woman who is in obvious despair.  Next to her are the words, “what next”.  While it is meant to be funny, there is a serious side to it.  Perhaps some of us can identify with it.

I fear for my grandchildren.  What’s next for them?  There may be another pandemic in their lifetimes.  The threat of global warming is real.  Unrest in the world is prevalent.

As for now, our local outlook has improved.  We are worshipping inside the church.  We are shopping again and having family get-togethers.  Hopefully, we are thanking God every day for our newfound freedom, for vaccinations, for continuing protection. No matter what is going on around us, Gods love remains steadfast and forever.  He hears our prayers, he is with us every moment, awake or asleep.

Nevertheless, we never know what might come next.  All the more reason for being devoted to our prayer lives and alert to what our God may be trying to tell us.

Blessed Lord, thank you for your steadfast love.  We regret our spiritual laziness.  Forgive us for our sins of omission.  Increase in us the desire to pray.  Hold us tight. Amen.
