Do not let the downtrodden be put to shame. Psalm 74:21
The Canaanite woman knelt before Jesus saying, "Lord, help me." He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters" table." Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done as you wish." And her daughter was healed from that moment. Matthew 15:25-28
The Lord has provided abundantly for we, his children. Yet many face poverty, even to the point of starvation. Thankfully, many people see the needs of others and do all they can to share the abundance that is available. Today I saw a volunteer at the grocery store loading bags of day-old bread to be sent where it can be given to those who need it. Loaves and Fishes serves in many locations, including evening meals served from Christ the King Church. Bread for the World has saved countless lives by distributing food throughout the world. Recent weather disasters have brought out the best in people who show up to serve those in need and to give all that they can. I could go on and on.
However, many in charge of distribution of food and services to others continue to prevent what is needed from getting to those most in need in many locations throughout our world. I just heard recently of warehouses full of rotting food. The government in charge of distribution is keeping the food from being distributed to those for whom it is intended. The Lord has commanded that those in need should be helped, not be put to shame. May those who have abundance learn to let go to help their fellow saints.
Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Thank you for the privileges and abundance you have provided to so many of us. Help us to always see the needs of others in order to help in any way we can. Release us from our will to covet what we have in order that we may share with others. Amen.
