If I take the wings of the morning and settle at the farthest limits of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me fast. Psalm 139:9-10

Paul said, “Last night there stood by me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship, and he said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before the emperor, and, indeed, God has granted safety to all those who are sailing with you.’” Acts 27:23-24

We do not see God, but He sees us. We may have times where God seems very far away, but He hasn’t moved. The psalmist writes of times when they might try to hide from God. Of course, that doesn’t work very well No veil, or disguise or thickest of darkness can hide us from God. All our secrets are known to Him; but we are not condemned. Fortunately we  cannot be removed from God’s supporting and comforting hand. Whether we move at the speed of light (the wings of the morning) or go the far limit of the sea, God is with us.

As one commenter (Annalisa V. Sawtell),writes: Psalm 139 is about “God's intimate knowledge of every detail of our lives, and the beautiful reality that there is nowhere we can go that is outside his care. His hand is with us, always. Even when circumstances seem dark or dismal, nothing is without light in God's eyes.”

Paul certainly could have felt far from God as he is about to be tried. He has a visit from an angel telling him not to be afraid, and that all with him will also be safe. We may not get to have an actual visit from an angel who talks to us, but we can be assured that God is with us, knows all about us, loves and cares for us and has a plan for us.

Loving God, like a protective parent you embrace us tightly and show us the way. Thank you for your continual presence with us.  You are our traveling companion, leading our journey into adventures of love, service, and spirituality. Help us follow your leading. Let us seek out new ways of loving you and others. Protect us. Amen.
