Our God turned the curse into a blessing. Nehemiah 13:2

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:19 NIV

During this time of Lent we contemplate the coming death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The ultimate act of God on our behalf is that he turned horrifying act of Jesus death on the cross into the the blessing for all who believe. When Jesus arose from the dead and defeated death he saved all believers from eternal damnation. No human can escape his or her own sinfulness; however, God found a way to reconcile each of us to him and to grant us eternal life.

Do any of us deserve such a gift? No, we do not, but God never gives up on any of us, his children. Before Saul became Paul, his life was one of constant persecution of those who believed in Jesus Christ. Saul experienced the miracle that led him to become the leader of all Christians. Saul becoming Paul is the example that lets each of us know that no matter how lost to sin anyone is, he or she can repent and be brought into the glorious grace that God intended for each of us to have.

Will we have discouragements that lead to doubts and sinfulness? Of course, but God always is there awaiting our change of heart that brings us back to his forgiveness. What a glorious gift, the gift of reconciliation. Our response needs to be that we forgive others and follow the example that God gave.

Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Because you sent your Son Jesus into the world to save us from our sins, we are blessed to have the assurance of reconciliation. Help us to accept your forgiveness and follow your example by forgiving others. Cleanse our hearts of resentment and grudges. Help us to share your message of forgiving love. Amen.
