You re great, O Lord God; for there is no one like you and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 2 Samuel 7:22

I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:13

Our God is an Awesome God! That is a song that we often have the children sing. In our verse from 2 Samuel, it is David who is speaking – maybe he even sings the same song, or one like it. This verse is part of several in which David is praising God, for all that He has done for the people and for David. In the preceding portion of chapter 7, David wants to build a temple – after all he has a nice place to live, and the ark is in a tent. God speaks to David through the prophet Nathan, telling him, no, this is not the time. Rather God has been with them all along, He will cut off the enemies of Israel, provide a land for them to live in, and make David and is descendants great. No wonder David extols the wonders of God.

Jesus says He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the first, the Beginning, and the last the End.  . Revelation is often confusing to read, but this verse is straightforward – God has been here since time began and created all that we see. He is still present in our world today, and He will be with us for eternity.

“Our God is an Awesome God

He reigns over heaven and earth

With wisdom power and might

Our God is an Awesome God”

Eternal God, We praise and worship you! Alpha and Omega, You control all of history and will be our God through all eternity. Forgive us for taking you for granted and thinking we are in charge. Help us use our lives to honor your greatness so that all can know Christ’s love for them. Amen.
