O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Psalm 95:1

Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. Acts 2:46-47 NASB

Last Sunday we were with family and worshiped with the Foley United Methodist Congregation on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The congregation has sponsored and conducted this service for many years in addition to holding regular church services in their home sanctuary. This service appeals to many travelers, and there is a time during the announcements when visitors are asked to shout out their home of origin. My point in telling this is that it was such an inspirational time even though most of us would never again be there to attend such a service; nor would we have the opportunity to really know each other as members of congregations do.

It didn’t matter. We were worshiping with members of the family of God. We felt that common bond and knew that we were one in faith and one with God. We appreciated the generosity of the members of this congregation reaching out to others of faith. What an inspiration to spend an hour of song, praise, and worship in such a place of incomparable beauty. We were indeed able to “…sing to the Lord; … and make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!”

Dear Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,

Thank you for the opportunity worship and praise you with the family of God no matter where we are. Thank you for your spirit who makes us one with you and others. Help us to live in unity, generosity, love, and compassion. May we witness to those to draw others to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Amen.
