I grew up in Omaha, NE where I learned the values of hard work, fast friendship, a lived faith, and adventure. From there I moved on to Fort Worth, TX where he studied Religion and Spanish at Texas Christian University. While at TCU I got bit by the international travel bug and made my way to China, Tibet, New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, and Nicaragua. After college I spent a year in the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, working as a Youth Ministry Coordinator at a congregation in urban Chicago. During that year I intentionally lived below the poverty line with a community of folks doing the same. From there I enrolled at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, where my studies focused on interfaith relations. While at LSTC I met my lovely wife Carolyn. I love new adventures of all kinds, whether they be backpacking & camping outdoors, exploring a new part of town, or laying in my hammock reading an epic fantasy novel. I am passionate about the work that God is doing in our world today and am constantly thinking about how we might become better disciples.

Maria Anderson-Lippert – Associate Pastor

Pr. Maria Anderson-Lippert grew up in Lindstrom, MN, has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN (where she also sang in the choir), and graduated with her M. Div. from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA.

For the past three years she has served as the Transition Pastor at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church in Portland, Maine, and as the Mission Developer for a new community called Arise Portland, which serves mostly people who haven’t found a spiritual home in a traditional church setting. Pr. Maria brings gifts in the areas of congregational transition, community and leadership development, and creative worship. She enjoys the many facets of pastoral ministry, particularly worship planning and leadership, pastoral care, adult and youth education, and community outreach. Through the work she’s done in Portland, she has developed strong ecumenical partnerships, built safety and trust with community members skeptical of the church, organized with others around issues of housing affordability and workers’ rights, and co-led an ongoing paperless singing practice group. Her passions for music and social justice largely shape the ways she shares God’s love both inside and outside her congregational ministry.

When not working, Pr. Maria enjoys bouncing between various creative endeavors, cooking meals with her husband, and snuggling with her two cats, Elliot and Ollie.

I was born in Iowa but raised in Wisconsin. I spent my childhood in the towns of Platteville and Portage, WI. I attended St. Cloud State University and graduated with a degree in Mass Communication and with a fiancé. We were married in 2003 and have called Minnesota home since. My wife, Cindy and our three kids – Malachi (Cai), Colette (Coley) and Cadence (Cade) live in White Bear Lake, MN. However, no matter where I call home my heart will always belong to the Green Bay Packers!

I began my professional ministry to students and families in 2007. I have my M.A. in Theological Studies from Bethel Theological Seminary. I have served as a Student Ministries Pastor in two churches and as the Area Director of YoungLife para-church ministry in White Bear Lake and Mahtomedi, MN.

Now, as an InterServe Ministry Associate/Consultant it’s my passion and privilege to help churches dream, design and implement ministry strategies to maximize a church’s reach and impact on students and families in their communities. I love the global, collective Church! I love the fact that I’ve been called to serve, teach and share the transformational love and hope of Jesus through the vehicle of His Church.

I’m excited to be at Christ the King for this season of ministry and look forward to serving & loving Jesus here with you all!

I grew up a few blocks from Christ the King and have warm memories of learning and worshipping here with my family.  After high school I went away to college, continued to grow in a variety of places and spaces with many new faces, settled in Burnsville and after a long career in the corporate world, I began working part-time in the church office in 2005.  There are many things involved in the life of the church and now, sitting in a different pew so to speak, my appreciation for mission and ministry at CTK has deepened.  What a joy it is to be part of and work alongside this community! In my second life at Christ the King, I’ve brought along my husband Doug and our young nephews, Oliver and Eli, and our niece, Leila.  It is a gift to share this space and this faith with them and with you.

My life began at CTK in May of 2008. I have been a professional photographer by trade for over 29 years, and have always enjoyed working with people and have grown up in the Lutheran church. Pastor Dave Valen was right in saying CTK would be a great fit for me, and I enjoy working with the members and staff. I was born in Illinois but MN has been my home now for over 28 years. I am married to Patrick and mom to 2 wonderful grown children, David & Megan. I enjoy reading, movies, golf, walking, the MN Twins & Vikings, and being with family and friends.
