Music at Christ the King

Christ the King has a long history of fine music. It’s ties with area Lutheran colleges and high schools are reflected in our tradition of sacred music. Together we raise our song drawing on a wide variety of resources, cultures, and styles. All are welcome at Christ the King.

Singing Choirs

The Trinity Choir for high school through adult sings a wide variety of music. We focus on SATB literature. The choir rehearses and sings on a regular schedule from September through the following Pentecost. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. (7:45 to 9:00 during Lent). The choir sings most Sundays at 8:30 and occasionally at 10:45.
Hosanna! Is for our Middle school and High School singers. Hosanna rehearses on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. and sings about once a month, usually at the 10:45 service. This group works on unision, 2-part, and when appropriate SAB music. Rehearsals are Mid-September through April.
Laudate (which means “to give praise”) is for children in grades three through five and rehearses as part of the Word on Wednesdays program. They rehearse from 6:05 to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday. Laudate participates in worship about once every five weeks, often singing with one of the other choirs. Laudate works to prepare unison and 2 part anthems. Choir members learn about
Alleluia Choir is for our first and second grade students. These students begin to learn basic musical skills including learning how to read a unison choral score. They sing for worship about once every two months, usually with one of the other choirs. Rehearsals are from 6:30 to 6:45 on Wednesdays.
Gloria is for our youngest singers – ages 3 through kindergarten. In this choir we begin to learn concepts of singing in church as we sing some of the liturgical music the students will hear in worship. Time is spent listening to music while participating in large motor movements. Gloria rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:45 to 6:55 p.m. The Gloria choir sings about three times a year for worship.

Instrumental Ensembles

Average Worship Band leads worship at the 10:45 services . The band includes guitars, percussion, winds, and vocalists. The band rehearsals are on Tuesdays beginning at 7:30 p.m. The band accompanies much of the congregational music at the service. Music is drawn from a variety of resources including Gather and Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
